Install LockedHours on your computer or phone

LockedHours installs from the browser, in a few clicks: it then opens in its own window, from your dock, taskbar or home screen. On the Time page, timers keep working offline.

There's nothing to download from an app store: the app is LockedHours itself, installed by your browser. It's always up to date, and you sign in the same way as on the web.

On a computer: Chrome or Edge

  1. Step 1: Sign in to LockedHours in Chrome or Microsoft Edge (Windows, Mac, Linux or ChromeOS).

  2. Step 2: On the app's home page, click Install in the Install the app box. If there's no Install button, click the install icon at the right of the address bar instead (a screen with a small arrow), or open the browser menu and look for Install LockedHours. In Chrome it's under Cast, save and share; in Edge, under Apps.

  3. Step 3: Confirm with Install. LockedHours opens in its own window and appears in your Start menu, taskbar, Launchpad or dock like any other app.

On a Mac: Safari

  1. Step 1: Sign in to LockedHours in Safari (macOS Sonoma or later).

  2. Step 2: In the menu bar, choose File → Add to Dock, then click Add.

On an Android phone or tablet

  1. Step 1: Sign in to LockedHours in Chrome.

  2. Step 2: Tap Install in the Install the app box on the home page, or open the ⋮ menu and tap Install app (on some phones it says Add to Home screen, then Install).

  3. Step 3: LockedHours appears on your home screen and in your app list.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Step 1: Sign in to LockedHours in Safari.

  2. Step 2: Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up). On an iPhone it's at the bottom of the screen; on an iPad, at the top.

  3. Step 3: Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

  4. Step 4: Open LockedHours from the new icon on your home screen. The first time, you may have to sign in again. Sign-in links open in Safari, not in the app: use the 6-digit code from the same email instead, or Google, Microsoft or your password.

Working offline

Timers run on our side, so a running timer keeps counting when your connection drops or your laptop sleeps. On the Time page you can also keep working with no connection:

  • Start and Stop a timer, and add time with + Track time (Start timer or Save entry). Stop in the timer bar works offline on any app page you have open. These changes are saved on your device and show not synced yet next to the entry.
  • While there's something waiting, the page shows Offline — will sync. When you're back online it syncs on its own, in the order you made the changes, and a message at the bottom of the screen says Synced. The times are the ones you clicked, not the time of the sync.
  • If the server can't accept a change (for example, the entry was locked by an invoice in the meantime, or you started another timer on another device after that change), it appears under Couldn't sync with the reason. Click Retry to try again, or Discard and correct the entry by hand (Undo in the message brings a discarded change back for a few seconds).
  • Editing and deleting entries, the weekly timesheet, reports and the other pages need a connection. App pages you've opened before on this device open offline with their last saved content; others show You're offline.
  • Changes made offline more than 14 days ago are refused when they sync: add that time by hand.

Uninstall

Remove it like any other app: on a computer, open LockedHours, open the ⋯ menu in its window and choose Uninstall; on a phone, press and hold the icon and remove it. Your account and data aren't affected.

Common problems

I don't see an install option

Make sure you're in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Chrome for Android (not Firefox on a computer, and not a private window), and on a LockedHours page. If LockedHours is already installed, the browser offers to open it in the app instead.

The installed app asks me to sign in again

On iPhone and iPad the home screen app can keep its own sign-in. Sign in once in the app, with the 6-digit code from the email if you use email sign-in, and it stays signed in.

Something stays under Couldn't sync

Read the reason next to it. If Retry doesn't help, click Discard and fix the entry by hand on the Time page, or ask us in Help.
